NRL SuperCoach Champions - Episode #17

June 13, 2019

Round 14 is proving quite a conundrum for bye planning and trade purposes - we've got a huge episode this week to help with that though.

Bear and Catfish both share their insight in their respective winning seasons; strategically, what were some of the best moves to make as well as what some of the potential traps and pitfalls were during this critical period of the season. We also look in-depth at some Round 16 coverage options - specifically players that may not be impacted by the upcoming representative round (the second Origin game and the Pacific Tests) and other critical questions like, to RTS or not to RTS this week!

Of course we have the usual Hype Train and Cheap Cheap segments where we look at players like Bateman, Taukeiaho, Staggs, Aitken, Host and others. We also answer some of your Twitter questions including whether or not it's good or bad to have too many players from one NRL team, and plenty more!

Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really do appreciate them all! And we did mention a little plug for our Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/NRLSC_Champions - please have a browse and see if you want to get involved!

NRL SuperCoach Champions - Episode #16b

June 6, 2019

As promised, a second episode this week post-Origin! Speaking of Origin... well, how about them Queenslanders, eh? To celebrate an awesome win for the good guys, we got another proud Queenslander on as a special guest this week to rub it in Bear's face, and who better than the 2017 SuperCoach Champion BanyoBoy a.k.a. Sam Rohlf! Sam is killing it this year after a bit of a rough season last year, and he shares a bit about his season so far, and also his insight into how to approach this week with all the uncertainty of who will and won't back up from Origin.

We also answer some of your Twitter questions including considering Smith vs McInnes, best replacements at 5/8 for Ponga, and other crazy ideas like selling Ponga and Munster.

Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really do appreciate them all! And we did mention a little plug for our Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/NRLSC_Champions - please have a browse and see if you want to get involved!

June 4, 2019

Well, what a round huh? The good news is that we survived, and really it's a good opportunity to regroup and reflect a little on the 2019 season. The Champions are here extra early this week to look back at the highs and lows of their respective seasons thus far, as well as looking at the one thing they have each learned about this SuperCoach season that has been different to previous years. We also consider how far behind you can be and still be a realistic (or even an unrealistic) shot of winning this year, and also start looking forward towards Round 16.

As you can imagine we won't be recording on Wednesday night because one of either Bear or Catfish would be too devastated (or inebriated) to speak after Game One of the State of Origin! However we plan to do a quick follow-up on Thursday to talk about the wash-up from Origin, the plans we will put in place for our teams to consider who should back up and who won't, and also to answer some of your Twitter questions.

Breathe in... breathe out... breathe in... breathe out... round 12 is finally here! The week we've planned and prepared for is finally here, and as always, half of our planning has been thrown out the window in the last 1-2 weeks due to injuries and Origin selections. At least we're all in the same boat, right!

The Hype Train is back and we talk Dylan Walker and Siliva Havili; we sort through the Cheap Cheap options of To'o, Cust and Hiroti (again); and of course we discuss:-

  • how many players is 'enough' for this week;
  • who from Round 12 we consider to be top 17 prospects for the remainder of the season, who is on the cusp or at least a good shout for 18th to 20th men for the run home and who should be on the 'sell' list post-Round 12; and also
  • which of the Origin-playing SuperCoach guns is a trade-out and who is a post-Origin target to bring back in.

We also answer more of your Twitter questions and also provide an update on the 'Battle of the Wednesday night podcasts' with the @wenin_rome and @JT250SC from The SC Report hosted by the NRL SuperCoach Talk site. Spoiler alert: we're winning!

Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really do appreciate them all! And we did mention a little plug for our Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/NRLSC_Champions - please have a browse and see if you want to get involved!

We're one week out from the dreaded first bye round and some SuperCoaches are on tilt! Relax though as the Champions are here to talk you through this week.

We cut through the hype surrounding this week's most popular trade-in targets; we sort through the Cheap Cheap options including Hiroti, Field, Arthurs and others; and of course we discuss at length the strategy surrounding the final preparations for Round 11/12 from a bye planning perspective, including a look at the players we don't think we could go without for next week.

It's a bit late but Episode #13 is here and the Champions are sorting out Round 10 for you all.

We consider jumping on board this week's Hype Train featuring Jason Taumalolo, Damien Cook, Cameron Munster, RTS and Ryan Matterson; we sort through the Cheap Cheap options featuring Dearden, Papenhuyzen, Young and Martin; and of course we continue our chat on bye planning when trying to deal with all these fringe Origin players who are very tempting right now. We also consider our trade plans for Round 12 but also looking ahead to Round 16.

Round 9 is here and it seems to have plenty of SuperCoaches scratching their heads and tearing out their hair while trying to decide what to do! Never fear though, the Champions are here to:-

  • cut through the hype in the Hype Train;
  • rate the cheapies on the tip of everyone's tongue in Herbert, Aekins and Young; and
  • talk in more detail about how we go about planning for Round 12 in the next few weeks like considering when to trade out Origin players, how we balance our squad for Round 16 and briefly discuss (more detailed discussion in coming weeks) how we like to set up for the run home.

We're up to Round 8 already and the Round 12 bye is close but not that close too! Catfish and Bear are here to help answer more Round 12/bye preparation questions including how we each prioritise trade-in targets over the coming weeks.

We also unveil two new segments which sees us dig a bit deeper into player discussion for a few select players. And we finish as always with another round of "Champ or Chump?" and this week's player in question is Viliame Kikau from the Penrith Panthers!

Anzac Day is almost upon us and we have another cracking round of games awaiting us, and more SuperCoach points to be scoreD! Firstly, make sure you don't get caught out by the earlier-than-usual lockout tomorrow afternoon! 4pm, not the usual 8pm kickoff!

We discuss Round 12/bye preparation including our thoughts on how many players we need, how we look at forming our teams for that round and working out what players will serve our team best in the weeks leading up to Round 12, in Round 12 itself and afterwards.

We work through more of your Twitter questions and give our $0.02 there and of course, we also play "Champ or Chump" and this week's player is Mitch Moses from the Parramatta Eels!

Round 6 is here and it's also the Easter long weekend! Firstly it's not a standard round so make sure you double-check when all the games are (including the Easter Monday game). We talk about the thought process behind evaluating whether you chase the cash (Xerri and CHT) vs chasing the points (jumping on a fallen gun, etc.) given the repeated questions we received on this topic!

We also trawl through a HUGE number of your Twitter questions and give our $0.02 there. Of course, we also play "Champ vs Chump" and this week's player is James Fisher-Harris from the Penrith Panthers.
